"Penwynni Merlod and rider Elizabeth Landes
Penwynni Merlod is a 2001 Welara pony. She is by the Welara foundation Welsh stallion, Bailey’s on Ice and out of Crabbet Arabian mare, AP Raffona. “Whinny” was bred and raised by Chris Tolar at www.LadybugHillFarm.com. Chris started her under saddle and then sent her on to pony riders, Kristin and Elizabeth Landes of Windswept Stables (www.EmpiresPower.com). Kristin and Liz completed Whinny’s hunter training and campaigned her at the local shows and at the A level. Her wins include many champions and reserves, year-end awards, Grand Champion Pony SWVHJA day at the Roanoke Valley Horse Show, and qualifying/attending the 2006 USEF National Pony Finals. She has proven that the Welara cross can compete well in open showing. After producing a lovely foal in early 2007 by Empire’s Power (Dutch Welsh K stallion), she was sold to Helen Jones to continue her winning ways. Her sweet temperament has helped make the transition from the show ring with accomplished pony riders to being Helen’s first pony nearly seamless.
